Pacific Coast Highway Memorial
Honoring the lives of those we love and have lost.
The Pacific Coast Highway is probably the most iconic and scenic route left in America. It is one of California’s classic symbols of substantial natural beauty. But it is a fatal stretch of road and takes too many lives away with its distractions, dangerous drivers, lack of safe crossings, and a dark place of accidental deaths. We as a community need to not only implement the changes necessary to make it safer but also acknowledge and create something beautiful as a symbol of the lives that have been lost.
Currently, white-painted tires line the corner of Webb way and PCH, a desperate need to share and hold witness to the lives of our loved ones and for passers by to remember what potential impact their negligence can have, how quickly an accident can occur and how the lives of so many can be impacted and changed forever.
We propose at digitalandstone to create a large-scale Fine Art Memorial in Marble, Bronze or Stone, that also combines a Tree of Life Digital Memorial for every life lost.
The Pacific Coast Highway Memorial will be both a place to honor and celebrate and share the lives of our loved ones who have tragically died on this road and will serve as a point of connection, an opportunity to mourn, to transform the grief from the trauma of loss through the beauty of Art and by sharing the stories of Life.
The Digital Memorial allows families and friends to add memories and grow their Tree of Life – it can be public or private and can be shared as much or as little as each family would like. It grows with more stories that are added and allows a place for all future losses on this road to be memorialized together.
Through an Environmental Legacy the Tree of Life Memorials give back to the environment, as we partner with Tree planting initiatives, and conservation organizations of both the Land and Sea and allow for community participation in supporting and sponsoring the family's wishes and the memories of those who have departed.
Why us? Digitalandstone was founded by Caroline PM Jones, a long-time resident of Los Angeles and an active part of the Malibu community. She created this company as both an artist and as someone who has experienced the terrible loss of a loved one on a highway.
Digitalandstone has created monuments, memorials headstones, and fine art in bronze, stone, marble, and more. We have a dedicated team, strong leadership, and a network of talented artists that help realize the memorial concept into reality. We work with both the city, architects, and chambers of commerce, private and public interests, and hope to present a proposal with three options of designs, budgets, and a schedule for engaging the families, the public, and the community, for completion installation and unveiling.
We believe we can create a wonderfully stunning monument that captures the beauty of the lives it represents and provides a gathering place for people to remember, mourn, and celebrate. With the integration of the digital Memorial into the physical, people will learn more about the lives and loves of those it remembers, and it will serve as a platform to connect the community and provide resources for those in need.
